The Holiway Garden Resort & SPA managers are committed to nature
conservation and protecting the environment.
To maintain the dream island Bali as a dream island, it is important
and essential to actively protect the environment. This starts with
the choice of building materials, continues with waste disposal and
electricity supply and ends with the sewage concept.
You will find a few important things which contribute to the Eco-concept of the resort here:
- Coastal protection:
The German architect Frank Landwehr has constructed a unique seawall on the island to protect the coast as naturally as possible and to avoid concrete structures. This seawall was built with geotextiles (GTR) and tons of heavy boulders. This defuses the surf and thus protects the coast from erosion. This impressive type of coastal protection has already found enthusiastic imitators on the island. Even government officials have been on site to learn more about this new type of coastal protection. In the course of time sand will accumulate between the stones and lead to increased stability.
- Sewage concept:
Because sewage is not supposed to flow into the sea or seep into the ground water, the Holiway Garden Resort & SPA managers have decided on a closed multi-chamber system,
with overflow to a Waste Water Garden (WWG), which is very successfull in the tropics. The filtered water is up to 98% pure and can be used for irrigation of the garden.
- Waste disposal:
During the construction phase we already began to separate the „organic” and „non organic” waste and to dispose of plastic on a daily basis. We purchased a small transport vehicle to take away the plastic waste from neighbouring families too at the resort’s expense. This service has been willingly used by the neighbours. Organic rubbish which will later be produced in the hotel and restaurant will be composted.
- Electricity supply:
The Holiway Garden Resort & SPA tries to generate as much electricity as possible with renewable energy (solar power). However, solar power alone is not enough. Part of the power needed must be obtained from a public energy provider. Where possible we use gas, as the CO2 output is substantially lower than with electricity production. Our main objective is a general reduction of power consumption, so we use energy-saving lamps and appliances, for example most lamps are installed with LED lights. Hot water will also be generated by gas water heaters.

- Building materials:
We use low-pollutant and natural materials. We work according to the principle of sustainability. The floors in the villas are made of wood, the walls will be painted in a natural earth colour. A double-sided aluminium foil will be used as roof insulation which reflects heat away on the one hand, and seals air in the room, thus creating a healthy room temperature.

- Water supply:
Most of the water supply is drawn from our own wells and from the public water supply. The drinking water is filtered by a reverse osmosis unit. Therefore consumption of water from plastic bottles (and therefore the waste) can be reduced.
- Feng Shui:
We have tried to integrate the building as harmoniously as possible with nature using feng shui to create harmony between human beings and the surroundings. The whole resort is designed according to these principles and thus ensures the well-being of the guests and villa owners.

- Swimming Pool:
The addition of chlorine to the Holiway Garden Resort & SPA pool can be reduced to a minimum, or eliminated completely by using salt electrolysis (only 0.4%) and special ultraviolet light radiation, so you can enjoy swimming without burning eyes and the disagreeable smell.
- The resort garden and organic farming:
The Holiway Garden Resort & SPA will have its own garden where a local farmer will grow vegetables and fruit organically. Our partner, Siegfried Leimroth, owner of several organic food shops and an expert in the area, will oversee farming. So the resort will contribute to the reduction of worldwide climate change.
- Coral reef:
There is a coral reef immediately in front of the Holiway Garden Resort & SPA which has been designated as a nature conservation area by the Sambirenteng town council. To protect the coral further, we will build a footbridge in the sea so that guests and owners can reach the water without endangering themselves or the coral reef. So nothing stands in the way of you having an "environmentally friendly" snorkelling experience.
We encourage every owner, guest, and holidaymaker to contribute to the
success of our eco-concept.
